Hefei TNJ Chemical Industry Co.,Ltd. produces various specifications of methyl salicylate (CAS number 119-36-8) and other chemical products, and continuously upgrades the product technology. Methyl salicylate has a limited strong odor similar to the deer’s grass. When used as a spice, it is often used as an excipient such as cavity medicine and paint in pharmaceutical preparations. It is also used in general flavors, such as the blending of spices such as molluscs. Others such as Mouth medications such as chewing gum and mouthwash are also used.

Production methods and application

Methyl salicylate is also used as a solvent and intermediate for the manufacture of pesticides, fungicides, fragrances, coatings, cosmetic inks and fiber dye additives.

Methyl salicylate reacts with ammonia to produce salicylamide, which is used in the production of the antipyretic analgesic ethyl salicylamide. Salicylamide itself is also an antipyretic analgesic. Methyl salicylate is acetylated to obtain methyl acetylsalicylate (C10H10O4, [580-02-9]). Put methyl salicylate and acetic anhydride into the reaction pot, add sulfuric acid under stirring, the reaction temperature does not exceed 60 ℃, about 1h, after the reaction is complete, pour the reactant into ice water to precipitate crystals, filter, wash with water, and dry to get the name Methyl acetylsalicylate. Acetylsalicylic acid can be cyclized to produce 4-hydroxycoumarin.
